    Tags: RDF semantic linked-data collective intelligence visualization   

    There is a very interesting conversation going on at the FB P2P group page.

    An excerpt by Poor Richard: “I am imagining a semantic ontology according to which the key ideas and data of this content could be parsed and tagged to form a distributed database using semantic linked-data structures. This would help transition the collective knowledge base of the research, activist, and social entrepreneurial communities into a machine-readable, semantically linked, searchable form.”

    And another one, most releavant here: “Another part of the “research information system” I am visioneering is pattern detection and recognition. An ontology gives us a set of semantically charged patterns. Then what we need is a pattern language with which to parse existing content and match it with our ontology. I am thinking of something like the “regular expressions” used in the old unix text editors or in the Pearl and Awk programming languages I once used.”

    Now, I have been thinking a while around such ideas. Ontology (e.g. using OWL) as proposed academically has some drawbacks, as it would imply everybody to share and adopt the same ontology. This looks rather difficult.

    Without going too much into details, I have been imagining some very different approach. By my observation, collective intelligence works best when it is decoupled in time and space – distributed. As an example, as a bread job I have been implementing a web site recently. For all the pieces I could not immediately find a solution, I browsed the web and found the information I need – from PHP details, to CSS, to javascript. That is standard practice developing and collective intelligence at best.

    Another great example is twitter. At its heart are short messages. Like lego pieces. It’s then up to minds to actually mesh-up tweets, make links, etc.

    So I am imagining an approach similar to this instead of some kind of platform for a next step. We already know the power of folksonomies, and there are great tools like Diigo out there. The problem is these are non-linked data with limited capabilities for harnessing.

    I am thinking of a tagging folksonomy approach which would enrich or publish data to RDF. Having RDF data we than can re-map all this data semantically. We can tag data with geo-tags, and visualize them on maps. They can be tagged in other forms to visualize differently (e.g. connections between projects, groups, etc.). We can tag videos and pictures to make them searchable, etc. People could come up with countless new ways of visualizing data – where Visual Y would pick up…

      BTW, this reminds me that IEML http://ieml.org could be considered an alternative to RDF in some cases, although RDF could be used as a data format for expressing it, or in combination with arbitrary RDF URI’s

      I’m glad you picked up on that P2P fb thread. There’s more on this topic in the Next Net and Global Survival Google Groups, and I’ve also been tossing it around with folks at the W3C Read Write Web Community Group and various mail lists.

      The trouble with folksonomies like you get from diigo or the like is no category/subcategory organization. You might impose this later, perhaps, but after the fact the semantic relationships between tags are not as clear as when you first assign them to a tweet, web page, link or whatever. I may be wrong about this, but it seems important at this point.

      Using Diigo as an example, it has some great features, not the least of which is poping its tagging dialog up in whatever your active window may be and automatically capturing the url, etc for you.

      What Diigo and other similar apps don’t do:

      1. let you access your entire existing folksonomy, alphabetized, in the dialog box or auto-complete if you manually type a tag. So you wind up with many variants of the essentially the same tag.

      2. let you hierarchically group tags into categories or sub categories, and define those on the fly

      3. let you define crosslinks between tags, categories, and subcategories (tags and subcategories may relate to more than one main category)

      4. they don’t publish the data to RDF or some linked-data format.

        Well that’s exactly the point of tagging, to get rid of categorization, because you’ll never get the categorization right. Tagging allows multi-dimensional categorization, and a simple search by tag is in fact a “click” on a category, so this

        thus doesn’t seem like someting I’d want to have…
        The key in your comment, and the point why I was writing the post, is exactly this:

          I’ve utilized a syndication plugin for WordPress into which diigo RSS can be fed and content categorized and sub-categorized to our heart’s content.

          @aay We could set up a space to aggregate bookmarks from Diigo. I’d suggest that we have a conversation surrounding the YWorld’s preferred folksonomy, if there isn’t one already.

      hi tawhuac,

      i’ve been researching the semantic web and structuring meaning through ontologies, folksonomies, folksontological approaches, IEML, gamification of semantic tagging, and also the data analysis side of it.

      i’ve also been sort of prototyping graph networks manually using a tool called Compendium for many years, and we just launched a collaborative platform inspired in part by that. check out metamaps.cc.

      it is our imagining of how these nebulous infocologies can be mapped and traveled.

      Basically we want to give you the ability to create and navigate knowledge networks fluidly, and build up both structured and unstructured relations. it is in its infancy but i’d like to collaborate with both you and others here on building knowledge networks.

      definitely open to talk about the rationale and reasoning behind design, and the feedback map also has some good insights.

      if you’d like an invite, i can post the invite code to this community. there are also others in yworlds who can invite you as well 🙂

      p.s. we are doing this from an integrative commons-based approach.

      Ishan, definitively very interested and thanks for the open invitation, appreciated. I checked metamaps.cc, and I like the navigational and the filtering elements very much, albeit failing to see the collaborative platform part in it so far.     I would love to see an intuitive way for YWorld members and allies map their values and work more easily together on projects.

    Toward this end, here are some thoughts on how tetrahedral forms could help in visually creating user profiles and promoting interactions.

    1. Mind-Body-Spirit (Conscious-Corporeal-Subconscious) aspects of Co-op member profiles

    The Mind-Body-Spirit faces of a user profile, when viewed from top down, could provide an intuitive way for members to visualize values:

    • On the Mind face of a pyramid in top view, there can be links to the key idea replicators that a person holds and wants to spread (via memes).
    • On the Body face, there can be pointers to the physical forms that a person manifests and helps seed (via genes).
    • On the Spirit face, there can be highlights of replicable patterns of emotional response (belief systems) that a person cherishes and wants to propagate (via lumenes).

    Rather than represent a 2D form, the user profile can be shown as a 3D tetrahedron.

    Soul can be charted as an axial line of consilience rising from the center of the Mind-Body-Spirit base of the pyramid.

    Soul as I see it is line of balance, defined by the centerline beliefs and actions that we uphold in balance the reproductive call of our valued memes, genes and lumenes. It consists of our unique valuing system that we use when deciding how to spread ideas, forms, and qualities of spirit through time.

    This seat-of-the-soul valuing system offers an opening to apply NETS principles to the world of action, enabling us to evolve beyond the SLANT of our inherited genetic and cognitive/spiritual programming.

    2. Personal-Civic-Business aspects of Co-op member profiles

    Another triangle can be used to represent three fundamental arenas for action (Personal, Business, and Civic).

    • Our Personal frame of reference is defined by what we do for intrinsic value.
    • Our Business frame is defined by what we do for exchange value.
    • Our Civic frame shows what we value as the Commons – ‘fields of emergence’ for present sentient life forms and future holons.

    A golden thread of consilience, showing who/what what we simultaneously value in terms of all of the above frames of reference, can rise from the vertical centerline. This axis of ideality – inhabited by potential actions promising dividends in all three frames at once – is arguably the strange attractor pulling us in non-random ways into our future.

    3. Visual ways of depicting “Social Tetrahedrons”

    I’m intrigued by the prospect of ultimately mapping individual values in a joined tetrahedral forms – star tetrahedrons or merkabas.

    This combined form could enable Co-op members to chart their values – as well as their ventures, projects, and even specific “asks” and “offers” – with reference to Mind-Body-Spirit and Personal-Civic-Business coordinates.

    They could do so by drag-and-dropping icons of valued projects, groups, and projects into this 3D object.

    The positioning of the icons could show how they map to specific kinds of value (items in the center would indicate the maximum of synergistic value creation).

    To see how one might visually display a person’s values in this 3D form, let’s focus on a tetrahedron whose base is formed by the Personal-Business-Civic triad.

    From a topview perspective, looking down at the tetrahedral form, all three of these frames can be viewed at a glance. (The profile creator should have a right to set trust thresholds that allow another viewer to partially or fully rotate the 3D object to see one or more of the given frames).

    A color reflecting the current Maslow state – showing survival, comfort, and generative levels – applicable to each frame of reference in this Social Tetrahedron (Soctet) can let the profile creator convey useful information to others in the Co-op at a glance .

    The Soctet user profile can also show people and initiatives that one includes as part of an extended, empathic self. This could be done by dragging and dropping other profiles into one’s tetrahedron, much as Twitter allows one to follow admired people.

    To add a person or cause to one’s empathic self, the profile creator could rotate the tetrahedron to populate a personal frame of reference (filling it with family and friends), a professional or business frame (with valued colleagues in a monetary-exchange based venture), and a civic frame of reference (e.g. with admired individuals and organizations working for the commons),

    Individuals and initiatives included in one’s “extended self” also could be made visible to others, when access rights are set, by double-clicking on a given face of one’s user profile.

    The outer faces of one’s Soctet can show publicly-visible opportunities for token exchange – “asks” and “offers” by which anyone can help fill out projects valued by the Soctet creator.

    Other ask/offer exchange opportunities may be extended only to people and projects within the Co-op. These could be viewed by those who receive access rights to double-click on the Soctet surface and open the Personal, Business, and/or Civic facets of the social tetrahedron.

    The Soctet framework provides a means of viewing valued holons. Individuals may choose to nest their Soctets within the social tetrahedrons of larger communities, enabling participants to see their identification with a larger connective/collective.

    Similarly, as noted above, the creator of a Soctet may choose to show the social tetrahedrons of others (individuals and communities) that he or she feels reside within the boundary of their extended/empathic self.

    Over time, mutual “trust tokens” might signify which of these others held delegated rights in the Co-op or the extended YWorlds community to act on the profile creator’s behalf.

    Two-way or multi-way delegation of trust in such cases would help in highlighting the contours of an incipient larger holon, with its own Personal-Business-Civic frames of reference.

    3. Implications

    A user profile system based on the above tetrahedral forms would provide both near-term and long-term advantages.

    At the outset, it can help individuals find within the Co-op resources and research projects most aligned and resonant with their deepest values and their most admired influencers.

    Longer term, a system of this kind can help YWorlds in rebuilding institutions and creating online and actual resilient communities, as and when ossified central institutions give way.

    A time of institutional breakdown will likely lead to polarization and fragmentation. Having a universal system for mapping NETS-aligned values – one that helps a diverse base of YWorlds members more readily locate and act upon areas of agreement – may help in finding and acting upon common ground.

    I’ll welcome a chance to discuss further and explore how this can help YWorlds expand the scope for members to generate value for each others’ projects in the months to come.

      @openworld I’m seeing the users keeping their tetrahedronal profiles inside their avatars, which they can compare with other players in the ‘second lifelike’ virtual space. I suppose we could latch onto the ‘merkaba’ meme and allow player avatars to expand the tetrahedron into a spaceship of sorts.

      Maybe sometime we should have a conversation about the privacy controls of these profiles. Some users may not want to upload their face and remain anonymous.

      I’m also thinking there could be some useful distinctions for Civic, Business, Personal facets. For me, they blend all together in more ways than I can keep track of, so I don’t know if we’ll all think in that way. Some constraints are useful, some can be downright irritating for players who prefer to customize along their own lines. It may be that they can present a any number of facets of themselves, like collections in Pinterest. As you know, we have more than one identity and methinks the appeal of games like WOW, is the variety of ways the player can represent their selves.

      One thing I love about @seh‘s Netention is how users can describe their current life situation (“is”), and potential future situations (“will be”) – as linked data objects. Methinks the best facets of personal values would be articulated within NETS, alongside the potential to turn intentions to manifestations. It’s my feeling that values are only meaningful if enacted.

      What I’m suggesting is that players have their own notions of Nurture, which they could define in terms of their present situation. It may be that my project needs Nurture, so I can share the values I’m looking for in others who might be willing to Nurture my project. I would then articulate the expected benefit I see from the nurturing engagement (to be). In my Equality section I’d describe other values, issues, and potential solutions that I’m attracted to. The same would go for Truth, in that I’d have my sense of truth as it presently stands, and I would have my preferred truth, or rather, the evidence I’m seeking to clarify if my truth is valid. The Systems aspect/facet of the profile would encourage the player to define the systems of interest in which they’d like to play a part, based both on past experience or intent to learn.

      Mark, so I’m seeing the potential of a NETS-centric profile for values as well as project intentions. Each user could potentially have their own map of prospects with thread them together as potential allies. Additionally, we’ll need to discuss the role of reputation and how to reduce the risks associated with egocentrism. I’m assuming that if players are speaking a meta-language designed around constructive cooperation in contexts that are mutually attractive, then we may eliminate the need for lengthy discussion surrounding agreements.

      Placing too much cognitive demand on the player to define themselves in any one particular way could be a turn off. But rather, giving them the chance to define themselves through game-play and earning certain rewards may be an approach. I’m thinking Urgent Evoke provides a good example of this:

        I’ve been much attracted to @seh‘s Netention project, especially given its resonance with the Heart-Head-Hands pattern that defines narrative fractals ( http://is.gd/nfractals):

        Heart (feel attraction and tension associated with a condition in focus)

        Head (imagine state jump to resolve tension & the steps to get from here to there)

        Hands (do test of strategy & followup action)

        My hunch is the “as is->to be” format for describing valued state jumps also can be formally expressed in the “case:rule:result” pattern that Peirce uses in logical reasoning.

        If the Visual Y language offers data mining tools for such case:rule:result patterns, one might infer from the positioning of Heart-Head-Hands formatted projects in a user’s social tetrahedron the extent to which a given”to be” state jump is to advance the reproductive success of valued replicators – memes, lumenes, etc – defined at the base of the person’s Mind-Body-Spirit-Soul tetrahedron.

        In the Personal-Civic-Business tetrahedron, the item’s positioning also can suggest the degree to which a given “to be” state jump is valued for intrinsic reasons (in the Personal frame), for exchange value (in the Business frame), or for safeguarding the Commons (the Civic frame).

        Items positioned in the center of either (or both) tetrahedrons could be interpreted as having synergies with all of the frames of reference.

        Such a system could enable members of the Co-op to post standing ‘asks’ and ‘offers’ for cocreation that would enable valued projects to more rapidly advance. A YWorlds currency and prize system – perhaps along the lines of http://is.gd/attentionwagers – could then enable creators in a network to build reputation capital by engaging in ways appreciated by their peers.

          @openworld I like the idea of the collective tetrahedron, and imagine it encompassed within a fluid sphere, which may reveal colorful ripples of activity as ‘asks’ and ‘offers’ are exchanged toward a common aim.

          I appreciate your thinking about the positioning ‘profile tokens’ at various points within personal tetrahedrons to reveal synergies with the frames of reference.

          Presently I’m thinking there may be a visual difference between self-selected profile tokens and ‘earned tokens’ or ‘badges’ which signify accomplishments in the YWorld’s game. These tokens may also be utilized as ‘asks’ and ‘offers’. A large part of the player’s identity may be composed of these clusters of tokens within their tetrahedron, which may be entered and explored as a representation of past activity (or not) in their YWorld.

          Methinks it’s worth noting that the YWorld’s logo appears as a shape that could act as a container, not so different than a tetrahedron.

      Glistening, yes – and one opportunity is to give rights for trusted users to rotate one’s tetrahedrons to access the fourth (base) face.

      This could provide a transparent view of the positioning of valued internal items (not-yet-public projects, etc) inaccessible via a public or semi-public topview.

      Do you see this as a good UI convention?

        Yes, that makes sense in the context of the schema you have described, it’s funny describing this whilst co-imagining it and how we can create it so as we can experience it. A system such as this could become quite exstensible given the possibilities of geometry especially if you use Curtis Faith’s isofractal system as a creative imaginary.

        In the way I have been imagining the tetrahedron, the fourth face is the deeper self, the aspect of self that only the individual has direct access to. This area will need to be treated sensitively, and it would not necessarily contain any information directly relevant to the “world”, as the heart;head;hands modes are, and it may well not benefit an individual to be approached directly via this facet of their expression, even with permission. I think there is room for a deeper conversation around this, and I would like to discuss it when we meet in person.

          I had a deeper realisation in meditation. The fourth face, the ‘base’ is only visible from INSIDE the terahedron, most clearly and completely from the opposite ‘point’.

    Hello everyone, this is an exciting place to find ourselves! I am not an IT professional but I do have some ideas and insight into what is being proposed here. I also have a contribution which, with the help of some coders may be a valuable component to the system being described in the project outline SMN Particle Draw
    ParticleDraw is a novel windows drawing program powered by a state of the art general system simulation engine. The brushes are dynamic systems of particles with interesting behaviours, which you can completely customise. Each brush is intricately tuneable with many underlying physical parameters and one can construct arbitrary systems of particles and use these as brushes.

    This program is an initial software implementation of abstract mathematics that arose from metaphysical research. It is still in development and is evolving into a mathematically derived operating system for “general systems”. It was inspired by system theory and ancient metaphysics and is essentially a fusion of esoteric mathematics with computer science. It provides a reality generative process that manifests existential spaces with fundamental information theoretic properties similar to our own empirical universe. This program is entirely free with full source code and detailed information on the website.

    The fact that it simulates particles is not important to the metaphysics – it can simulate ANYTHING!!! In fact if you “add a system” then choose to add a “sys_wrapped” system instead of a particle you will see that it can simulate generate software as well. It pops up a dialog box with a simple calculator in it, entirely simulated by SMN. If you pause the simulation engine (press p) the calculator will be frozen. These simple systems just show that the mathematics can simulate systems. In future it will be far more general and could be used for software engineering, VR game construction, complex interactive web design, scientific simulation and analysis, and so on. It truly simulates or creates “general systems”, which can be ANYTHING. So long as you know how to represent the existential and causal structure of the system SMN will then bring it to life and you can play with it.

The way you describe it makes me think it is the visual analog of Granular Synthesis for audio http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granular_synthesis which is a fun technique useful in sound effects and music production

    Spacegraph is a computer experience involving linked transformable objects that connect human thought, memory, sensory representation, communication, and computational possibility.

    It consists of human-computer interaction (user-interface) software components that can be used to build applications.

    As a complete self-contained operating environment, it implicitly supports the functionality of all modern software products, including data browsing, web navigation, content editing, communication, system management, and software development.

    Self-transforming hyper-linked networks (composed of language, code, geometry, video, and audio) form a universally adaptable system design that unifies all known computing applications and services — with the goal of maximizing clarity, simplicity, and the ergonomics of human-computer interaction.

    The term “SpaceNet” refers to “Spaces” (audiovisual interactive experiences), and “Nets” (virtual semantic network memory, also called graphs), which seamlessly interlink objects in computer memory and web data sources. SpaceNet portrays dynamically changing Nets as perceivable, multimedia Spaces. Spaces determine the potential interactive operations that may be performed in and upon them, and link to “contextually tangent” spaces that may be called into exclusive or simultaneous spatio-temporal focus.

    The linking of aspects of one’s personal reality with a computer’s virtual realities is the essential component of the dialog between a human mind and a computer system used to augment it. Rather than separating computer activity into individual software applications, SpaceNet functionality tends to directly involve the actual objects and operations about which one is truly concerned about, in present moment-to-moment contexts.

    “Nets” (virtual graph-based semantic memory) contain explicit and implicit hyperlinks amongst data objects and the possible operations upon them. This supports navigation through memory and its metadata in ways that imitate the human mind’s natural associative attentional flow. Subsets of nets (subnets) can be synchronized with remote instances, supporting all forms of real-time and cross-time distributed publishing, communication, and messaging.

      hey seh, hello in a different platform 😉 very much like “nets” as virtual graph-based semantic memory. greater activity could also create spikes of a sort within the graph, and isolated sub-graphs of semantic memory ( more specific subjectivity of semantic memory, or alternatively low-activity areas) are almost blob-like.

      nice experiment.. i guess it’s all waves. even at the neural level, though neurons communicate in “spike trains” .. (i know this is a different “spike”). granular synthesis is an audio generation technique that synthesizes a flood/cloud of “grains” aka “wavelets” extracted from a source sound and played back with varying parameters. (the software Fruity loops has a nice interactively-tweakable granular synthesizer as an alternative to the ordinary wave sampler). i imagine the same could be applied to “codelets” or “textlets” or “semantic-lets” to synthesize a dynamic information cloud into any shape or sound which would be related synaesthetically as two expressions of a more fundamental information source… i’ll think more on this, thanks

    My name is Fabio Barone, I grew up in Switzerland from Italian parents. I now live in Medellin, Colombia, South America. I’d say my main tag is Generalist, with lots of interests in a diversity of topics ranging from permaculture, to complexity, to collective intelligence.     Those of you who would like to work with the Cooperative on WGA, lets start by introducing yourself here. As we move forward, we will organization ourselves and this site around teams and projects. Y Worlds does have resources to allocate and has a starting blueprint for you to react to and build upon.       I’m cofounder and president of Openworld, a nonprofit volunteer network and consulting practice that specializes in innovative ways of removing barriers to entrepreneurship. I’ve worked in 50+ countries on policy reforms, technology parks, and startup incubators. My main current interests include mapping systems for online collaboration based on patterned storylines (http://is.gd/nfractals), Mind-Body-Spirit coordinate systems for user profiles, virtual games for actual change (http://is.gd/openworldgame), and challenge offers as a way for bootstrap groups to obtain land grants or other enduring asset endowments. I’ve also specialized in free economic zones for knowledge-based industries, and microscholarship initiatives in economically struggling areas. On the home front, I’m active in nonprofit groups (mainly http://ArtisansCourtyard.org) working to improve the local business climate and attract creative ventures to the Shenandoah Valley. I’m also very interested in alternative currencies (http://is.gd/help4nonprofits) and would love to see them integrated in online as well as actual communities. Earlier in my career, I was publisher and managing editor of Reason magazine, and cofounder of the Local Government Center, springboard for Reason Foundation’s privatization practice. I’m a graduate of Harvard University and former Visiting Fellow of the Lehrman Institute, where I researched ways that neighborhood associations can take on municipal service responsibilities.

      My name is Brock Dubbels. I am currently part of a work group at McMaster University in the Department of Computing and Software. My training is in Cognitive Psychology, psychophysics, and Social Learning. My current work is on the G-Scale initiative.

      G SCALE
      May 2012 to present
      **Identify all of the issues of general user interface relating to usability at different scales for software, then help design (and implement) a set of domain-specific languages which capture the constraints of user-interface features with respect to scale.

      **This will be done through emphasis from psychology and user-interface literature. This process is intended to identify cognitive issues relating to scale perception, and capture these in a formal model. Examples: Fitts’ Law, Hick’s Law and the Steering Law, Visual Span, Event Indexing, Embodied Cognition, and Symbolic Representation.

      **Identify examples of such concerns, and pre-existing solutions, from existing software which works at multiple scales; put an emphasis on solutions concerning gaming software.

      **Relate these models and solutions to design constraints for features in software.

      **Embody these design constraint into a set of domain specific languages; and

      **Provide interpreters for these languages.

      CLIR Fellowship
      I will also be working with the McMaster Engineering and Science libraries on data management issues. Specifically projects that forge, renovate, and strengthen connections between academic library collections and their users. The program offers scholars the chance to develop new research models, collaborate with information specialists, and explore new career opportunities. Participating libraries benefit from the expertise of accomplished scholars who can invigorate approaches to collection use and teaching, contribute field-specific knowledge, and provide insight into the future of scholarship.

      I will be particularly focused on developing structures that promote participation, rather than just interaction. I am very interested in big data sets and how these are curated for a data lifecycle. I am particularly interested in how participation with a data set can help in organizing future usage of the data set, and the discovery process in collecting data for new and unique analysis–beyond the initial intent of the data set.

      As an example, I am very interested in how the FoldIt protein folding game has used structured participation to have humans support their computation.

      It seems to me that we can develop interesting AI strategies from copying human participatory activity.

    This area is where we work on the strategy for the technological development of Visual Y. Join Working Group Alpha (WGA) as we tackle the blueprint, controls, patterns and back end of our modeling system. We will be developing using JavaScript, HTML5/CSS3/Canvas, Generative Audio, Node.js, WebGL, and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB. Contributions do not only have to consist of code or contributions to the software engine. We are looking for a rich mix of both concept and tech – for the best ideas and the best ways to harness software, hardware, visual and auditory meaning, generative GUI, color, movement, human perception, cognition and more.

    We think our current language is inadequate to address the complex nature of the world around us. We are bound to an inherited language that has limited our capacity to process the ever-evolving landscape of information.

    We are going to try to solve a problem that lies at the very core of the human condition – communication. As a result of our technological evolution we have the ability to create a new language, built from the ground up to organize and deliver complex, systemic knowledge using semiotics-on-demand: Visual Y.

    Visual Y is a browser-based interactive modeling system; a generative engine that creates interactive visualizations in real-time. This enables us to organize and employ new data sets anywhere at any time, establishing models, relationships, and exchanges among variables and across ontologies. It does not store and retrieve videos; it does not store massive amounts of data. Visual Y is distributed computing.

    We are a Cooperative that believes everyone should be rewarded for their contributions based upon the scale, quality and impact of those contributions. We will be working together in teams focused on solving particular challenges. Join Working Group Alpha to help us construct this language of complexity.

    Visual Y

    Visual Y is our system of knowledge visualization.
    Visual Y consists of:

    • a systemic computer based hardware and software architecture capable of running large scale, interactive, real time, generative modeling worlds via a web browser
    • a generative engine capable of supporting coders, designers, editors and end users
    • an immersive visual approach to generative programming that enables a pattern builder to use design tools to craft the desired multivariate pattern in real time, onscreen. The implemented patterns, static or dynamic, then automatically generate sets and subsets of code segments that are stored and tagged in a knowledge/code model. The code is the database or references a database table. A pattern time sequence is not a stored movie.  It is a real time browser based code set launched through interactive controls.
    We think that for any topic there are fixed families of known variables that must be considered for a comprehensive understanding of that topic. Those known variables at the highest planes of understanding form foundation models – portal maps.
    We think that each variable in a family should be fixed in space, holding a particular spatial position among the other variables depicted in the model. We call each variable a cell. A cell is a fixed pixel set that can be controlled according to a uniform wiring architecture.
    Visual Y is the complete toolset, engine and process that drives the patterns of meaning that form within each cell (variable), that describe the attributes of the variable, and the relationships and exchanges among the variables. The code, cell models and propagating patterns across time all contain complex knowledge conveyed to the end user.
